Peugeot's biggest People Carrier, the E-Traveller, has usefully improved its proposition. Jonathan Crouch drives it.

Ten Second Review

You'd be surprised just how many options there are for a business or a family seeking full-electric power in a really large MPV. Here's Peugeot's take on this concept, the E-Traveller. This improved version now gets a smarter look and an improved version of the brand's large 75kWh battery, so it'll go a bit further on a single charge. And it'll seat up to nine, help you move house or function as an executive minibus. All without using a drop of fuel.

Background

Peugeot is building up a useful portfolio of full-electric models. Here's the marque's biggest EV, the E-Traveller, in this guise usefully improved. It's based on Peugeot's Expert van and it goes up against three identically-engineered designs, the Vauxhall Vivaro Life Electric, the Citroen e-SpaceTourer and the Toyota Proace Verso EV. All of these Stellantis-designed models have been enhanced and can now match the driving range of the segment leader, the Mercedes EQV. But this Peugeot costs a lot less than that Stuttgart model and offers a useful choice of body styles. Both these things might be of interest to business users and suburban family customers.

Driving Experience

The main news with this updated E-Traveller isn't really the smarter look but that Peugeot has finally dumped the feeble 50kWh battery that in the old model was rated at just 136 miles (but which habitually struggled to make three-figures in the real world). The brand now restricts this E-Traveller to the bigger 75kWh battery you had to pay extra for in the pre-facelift model - and has improved this larger unit so that it now offers a WLTP-rated range quoted as being between 194 and 230 miles. That's still not as far as you might like - we struggled to get much more than around 180 miles in this test - but at least it now makes this Peugeot a more usable people-carrying wagon. Unfortunately though, the same 136hp motor as was used for the old 50kWh model must power it along; yes, basically the same one as is used by the brand's E-208 supermini weighing 600kgs less. So, as you can imagine, given that just 260Nm of torque must thrust nearly 2.2-tonnes of squarical MPV through the air, performance is, well, somewhat lethargic. Stellantis Group clones of this model aside, we actually can't remember driving an EV that took as long as 14.3s to reach 62mph, by which time you'll be pretty close to the modest 82mph maximum. Motorway speeding tickets will be rare, a road format you'll want to avoid because cruising at the national limit will see your EV range figure quickly drop like a stone, not helped by the squarical shape. To keep range reasonable, you'll need to frequently engage the most frequent 'Eco' drive mode but if you do that, power output is reduced to just 80hp - and you can imagine what that might be like with the car fully loaded on a long fast uphill climb. At which point you'll quickly be switching to one of the other two drive settings - 'Normal' and 'Power'. As part of the changes made to this updated model, a three-stage brake regen system has been added, operable via these steering wheel paddles. The fiercest setting makes a difference to frugality, but stops well short of offering the currently fashionable 'one-pedal' style of EV driving.

Design and Build

As before, E-Traveller customers get a choice of two lengths - Standard (4.9m) and Long (5.3m). Either way, this Peugeot is a reasonable 1.90m wide and will fit under car park height restrictors. This improved version gets a new grille design featuring the brand's latest emblem at its centre and most versions get smarter Eco-LED headlights incorporating the brand's usual three-claw signature. there's also a restyled bumper. Inside, there's a new 10-inch digital colour instrument cluster which provides an optimised and customisable display of the essential information, including that of the navigation system and information relating to energy flow and recharging. Peugeot has also revised the dashboard to incorporate a larger 10-inch HD central touchscreen for controlling the multimedia system and connected navigation. This includes the 'OK Peugeot' voice assistant which allows drivers to control the main infotainment functions without taking their eyes off the road. Various cabin seating formats are available. The base 'Combi' version gets a van-like front bench seat, whicjh allows it to take up to nine. Otherwise, you'll get an eight-seater layout, with individual seats up-front and two rows of three seats behind. Unless you opt for top 'Allure'-spec and pay extra for one of the 'Rear Seat Packs', which give you individual VIP chairs in either row 2 or row 3 - or both; which could make your E-Traveller either a seven or a six-seater. On to luggage space. Annoyingly, the useful opening tailgate window (which if you've only small bags to put in alleviates the need to raise the heavy tailgate) only comes as standard with this top 'Allure' trim - though you can pay extra for it with a mid-level model. Without that, you've to give your back a work-out with the tailgate - which will require lots of space to be left behind the vehicle if you're to operate it. Still, once it's up, it's so vast that you could shelter under it in a rain shower whilst unloading. It's a versatile space, with a light on both sides and four tie-downs - but obviously a lot more versatile if you've got the 'Allure'-spec model floor rails to slide the third and second row benches about. And if you've avoided base 'Combi' trim, where the third row seat back can't be folded. Obviously if you lump the two seating row benches out completely, you'll get essentially a Peugeot Expert delivery van - with a completely flat floor. With the second and third row seating removed, there's 2,413mm of loading length in the Standard version and up to 2,763mm of loading length in the Long model. Depending on the loading length you settle on, maximum load volume varies between 2,550 litres and 3,100 litres.

Market and Model

As you've probably realised by now if you're ferrying about a large family or running a shuttlebus business, transporting the number of people you can get into a large MPV like this isn't cheap. At the time of this review in Autumn 2025, Peugeot's list price was from around £35,500 for this E-Traveller after deduction of the available £1,500 government grant, which is on;ly offered with base Combi trim. Sticker figures rising to around £49,000 for the biggest, plushest 'Allure' version we tried; think just over £50,000 with key VIP options fitted. There are three trim levels - base 'Combi' (which, be aware, is the only one that benefits from the government's £1,500 Electric car Grant), then mid-level 'Active' and this top 'Allure'. In each case, you can pay £900 more to graduate from the Standard medium-length body shape to this lengthier 'Long' variant, a premium you're going to need to spend to get the full VIP experience. The spec of the base nine-seater 'Combi' model limits you to the basics, but they include most of what you'd need. Tick off twin sliding side doors, air conditioning, rear parking sensors, auto headlamps and wipers, cruise control with a speed limiter and high beam assist. Inside, there's a 10-inch digital driver's instrument screen and a 10-inch central HD Touch screen with voice recognition, 4G connectivity and 'Mirror Screen' wireless 'Apple CarPlay' and 'Android Auto'. And there's a Peugeot app so you can interact with the car via your smartphone. From mid-level 'Active'-spec upwards, you're limited to eight seats (because just two folk can sit up-front) but you do get a few extra niceties; like Eco LED headlamps, front fog lights and power-folding mirrors, plus there are body-coloured bumpers, dark-tinted rear side windows and an acoustic pack with extra cabin noise insulation. Plus there's a split-folding row 3 bench seat. Obviously if you want VIP-style travel, you'll need the top 'Allure' version, which has almost everything; including power-operating side doors, 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, front parking sensors and a 'Dynamic Surround View' 'Visiopark 180' rear camera. Inside with 'Allure' trim, the key difference is that the second and third row seats slide about on rails, plus second row folk get rear side window blinds and there's dual zone electronic climate control with rear air conditioning. Navigation, thick floor carpets and a parcel shelf come included. Along with an electrochromatic rear view mirror and a Flankguard system that stops you from running into things at parking speeds. On top of all that, the driver's seat gets power adjustment, memory functions and a massage feature, plus there's heat for the steering wheel and front seats. The big decision for 'Allure'-spec customers is whether to stick with the standard eight-seat cabin arrangement. Or to make this E-Traveller a seven or six-seater by specifying one of the 'Rear Seat Packs' available for the second and third rows.

Cost of Ownership

Like its Stellantis cousins, the E-Traveller can only be DC-charged at up to 100kW, which isn't especially rapid these days and means a 5-80 per cent charge takes 45 minutes. That's not especially fast; to give you some class perspective, a rival (though admittedly much pricier) long wheelbase Volkswagen ID.Buzz 7-seater DC-charges at up to 185kWh and can complete the same charge in under 30 minutes. This Peugeot People Carrier features an 11kW on-board charger and a full charge from a 7.4kW domestic wallbox takes 11 hours 20 minutes - which means that if you've a late finish and an early start before a longer trip, you probably won't have long enough to fully replenish the battery before you go. Things will be easier in that regard if you're able to AC home charge using a three-phase 11kW supply, in which case a full charge could be completed in seven and a half hours. If you're ever in a situation (staying at a Bed & Breakfast, say) where all you can do is connect to a domestic plug, you'd need a yawning 36 hours 45 minutes for a full charge. For peace of mind, the lithium-ion battery pack offered in this model comes with an eight year/100,000 mile warranty, for up to 70% of the initial battery capacity. The centre screen's aforementioned 'Energy' section allows you to manage your charging regime (which you can also do via the provided Peugeot app). Service intervals are every 25,000 miles or every two years, whichever comes first, with an initial inspection after one year or 12,500 miles, whichever comes sooner. And as usual with EVs, there's low Benefit-in-Kind taxation, as we filmed rated at 3% until Spring 2026. Insurance grouping range between 34 and 39.

Summary

We can see why plenty of families might consider an E-Traveller, now that it can offer a decently-sized battery with - for suburban use anyway - a reasonable driving range between charges. We like the way that the battery powertrain has been built into this People Carrier without any compromise to interior space. Plus this MPV is quiet and well built, looks contemporary and, if you spend more on trim, comes well equipped. If you can live with the range on offer - as some city based families and business users might now be able to - there's potentially a lot to like here. It certainly has a very flexible cabin. And if you buy in at the bottom of the line-up, you won't actually be paying all that much more than you'd need for a much smaller 7-seat compact MPV - like the long wheelbase version of Peugeot's own E-Rifter. And you'll be getting a vastly more versatile People Carrier in return. Splash out on a version like this one with individual VIP armchair rear seats and of course from a price point of view it's a different story, but for its intended market, this big Peugeot's appeal in its ritziest form as a potential boardroom on wheels will have its advocates. Of course, whatever kind of potential Traveller customer you are, you could get much the same thing with a Citroen, a Vauxhall or a Toyota badge. As with those models, the cabin updates here are well judged and media provision has been bought properly up to date. If you like this Stellantis design and you're to spend your money Peugeot's way, it might be because you like this updated E-Traveller's now-smarter look. But it'll be more likely to be because you've been offered a better deal - which is quite possible via the brand's extensive dealer network. Space, they say, is the ultimate luxury. If you subscribe to that view and want to switch your big People Carrier to an EV, you might well find this one worth a look.
