MG’s new MG4 EV Urban has been set up to do a very specific job in the UK market
The MG4 EV Urban has been tailored for a specific purpose in the UK, bringing the MG4 back into a pricing sweet spot for salary sacrifice and company car lists, without compromising on cabin or luggage space. That makes it a viable everyday car, rather than one positioned as a secondary vehicle.
The range opens at £23,495 for the Comfort Standard Range, increases to £25,495 for the Comfort Long Range, and tops out at £27,995 for the Premium Long Range.
It also differs from the regular MG4 EV in the way it is made, because it switches to front-wheel drive and uses cost-focused hardware choices that help explain how MG has kept the list price low. The MG4 Urban also has different styling.
Charging performance is best understood in the same context, because peak DC figures are quoted at 82 kW for the Standard Range and 87 kW for the Long Range with a 10 to 80% rapid charge in about half an hour, and the inclusion of a heat pump as standard should help reduce the seasonal swing that can otherwise make winter running and range planning harder for drivers without regular access to workplace charging.
The practical case is strengthened by the packaging, because it is a 4,395 mm hatchback with a long wheelbase and a boot quoted at 577 litres including underfloor storage, which is the kind of number that can remove the perceived need to step up into an SUV on a company car list, particularly for drivers who prioritise space, ease of parking, and straightforward costs over outright performance.
