Tesla has added a Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive to the UK line-up
Tesla has added a Long Range Rear‑Wheel Drive version of the Model Y to its UK line‑up, targeting drivers who want the longest possible range without opting for the dual‑motor AWD model. For fleet and salary sacrifice drivers, the key benefit is reduced reliance on mid‑day charging and greater flexibility when winter conditions and sustained motorway speeds erode real‑world range.
The model is priced at £44,990, with Tesla quoting up to 387 miles of WLTP range. It also offers a 0–60 mph time of 5.4 seconds, DC charging at up to 250 kW on Superchargers, and a claimed 173 miles of range added in just 15 minutes.
This version is also a simpler spec than better-equipped versions in the Tesla range. Autocar describes it as a “stripped-back” Long Range variant, with changes including the removal of the front and rear light bars, no panoramic roof, a move to simpler passive dampers, more cloth trim, a reduced centre console, deletion of the rear passenger screen, a cut-down audio system, and manual steering wheel adjustment.
The new Tesla Model Y Long Range offers company car drivers the comfort of longer range in a reduced specification model – and many drivers will be happy to accept this, not to mention the reduced benefit-in-kind taxation thanks to the lower P11D value.
