The new all-electric Volvo EX60 has been revealed as a major step forward for the brand
Volvo has unveiled the all‑electric EX60 as a significant step forward for the brand, combining long‑distance capability with ultra‑fast charging to address two of the main concerns for drivers considering the move to electric.
Built on Volvo’s new SPA3 electric architecture, the EX60 delivers a claimed WLTP range of up to 810 kilometres in all‑wheel‑drive form. That equates to just over 500 miles, making it the longest‑range electric Volvo yet and placing it among the most capable electric SUVs in its segment for extended journeys.
Volvo’s efficiency improvements are thanks to a few clever technical advancements. By integrating the battery directly into the vehicle’s structure with cell-to-body technology, they’ve managed to reduce weight and boost energy density. They’ve also crafted their own electric motors and adopted mega-casting manufacturing techniques, which replace hundreds of separate parts with single castings. This not only slashes mass but also enhances overall efficiency.
Battery management software developed with Breathe Battery Technologies allows the EX60 to adapt charging behaviour in real time, keeping the battery within its optimal operating window across different temperatures and charging conditions. This is designed to deliver consistently fast charging performance year-round, rather than only in ideal conditions.
Volvo will back the EX60 with a 10-year battery warranty, underlining its confidence in long-term durability and residual value. With fewer moving parts than combustion-engined vehicles, servicing requirements are also expected to be reduced.
The Volvo EX60 will be fully revealed on 21 January 2026 via a livestreamed global event. When it arrives, it is positioned as a practical, no-compromise electric SUV aimed at drivers who need long range, rapid charging and everyday usability without changing how they travel.
